This is a very beautiful hinged snuffbox, oval shaped, prettily hand carved in a Brazil nut called "coquilla" or corrozo. Hinge is white metal, in good condition, cover is ornate with Lucrece cameo sculpture, in a Roman landscape.... Body is carved with acanthus leave pattern. The snuff box is complete, genuine and rare.  See on the famous PINTO book "treen", on pl 206 and 207, some pictured samples.
Origin and period: French working, maybe a prisonner work, dating from the 1790-1815 years, authentic piece.

Condition: Would be perfect without this minimal little repared crack, and a lack on hand, visible on our pictures

 Voici une superbe tabatière de poche en noix sculptée, de forme ovale, deux coques bien sculptées reliées par une charnière d'argent ou de métal, la boîte ferme bien, avec un joli "clac" et a une très belle patine. Coque du dessus: Lucrèce à ses derniers instants, en très fort relief dans un paysage d'inspiration Romaine; manque à la main gauche de Lucrèce. Coque inférieure: jolie forme de panier tressé de feuilles d'acanthe, une dente rebouchée, pas trop visible. Un beau travail de sculpture en camée.
Bel objet Français Empire ou Restauration, objet de prisonnier, forçat ou marin ancien que nous garantissons authentique.
